The School of Public Health at West Virginia University has an opening for a Department Chair in the Department of Health Policy, Management, and Leadership. The position is a 12-month, tenured appointment and will be hired at the Associate or Full Professor level. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

The young Department of Health Policy, Management, and Leadership at the School of Public Health is undergoing an exciting period of development, and is looking for a dynamic leader to implement its strategic vision. The successful candidate will lead the department in the following school-wide initiatives: 1) improving the quality of the student experience, 2) growing the school’s academic program offerings, 3) strengthening the school’s relationship with the University’s Academic Medical Center, and 4) growing the department’s relationship with West Virginia’s Department of Health and Human Resources.

The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the School of Public Health. In addition to regular faculty responsibilities in research, teaching, and service, the Department Chair is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership to the Department; guiding curriculum development; coordinating faculty recruitment, development, and advancement; and facilitating service/outreach to the public health and healthcare administration community.

Required qualifications include: 1) earned doctorate in Health Policy, Health Administration, Management, or a closely related field, 2) a record of achievement consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure, 3) a minimum of three years of successful experience in administration at the departmental level, and 4) a successful track record of external funding. Exceptional candidates will have: 1) successful experience with developing new academic departments, 2) experience with accreditation and curriculum development, and 3) familiarity with programs containing a Master’s in Health Administration degree.
