Position: Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice (appointment stream) 
 
Appointment: Nine-month, full-time; starting Fall 2025 

Description: 

The Department of Health and Human Development in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a 9-month appointment stream assistant or associate professor in Exercise Science.  This position will align closely with the School of Education’s mission-vision and strategic goals and priorities, which include our commitment to equity, justice, and innovation, and approach to learning as intertwined with health, wellness, and human development. The unifying feature of our department is a focus on human growth, adaptation, and thriving.      

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Exercise Science programs are held to the quality standards and guidelines of this rigorous accreditation, and which facilitate the preparation of students seeking employment in health, fitness, and exercise related fields. The work of the program is focused on the rigorous study of effects of sedentary behavior, physical activity, exercise, and fitness on various health outcomes, human performance, and health and well-being. Coursework in the department focuses on applied human anatomy, exercise physiology, human physiology, strength & conditioning, healthy lifestyle behaviors, and the assessment, prescription, and instruction of exercise and fitness activities.  Our enrollment is growing, and we seek faculty who can add to and enhance our undergraduate exercise science offerings.  

The desired candidate will carry an 18-credit hour load and teach undergraduate courses in exercise science including applied human anatomy, physiology (including related laboratories), and strength and conditioning (including laboratories and practicums), and contribute to the program operations, which includes advising undergraduate exercise science majors. More specifically, we are searching for a strength and conditioning scholar-practitioner who demonstrates significant experience in the field and can lead the pursuit of national commission for certifying agencies (NCCA) accreditation status for the undergraduate program.
 
We welcome applications from recent doctoral graduates and faculty at the rank of assistant or associate professor who wish to join us for a 9-month appointment beginning August 2025.  


Required:
•    Earned doctorate with training and research/practical experience in exercise physiology, kinesiology, or related field. 
•    Experience teaching relevant curricula (i.e., applied human anatomy, human physiology, strength & conditioning, and related laboratories)  
•    Experience working with students (teaching, mentoring, advising)
•    Evidence of scholarly activity and/or application (i.e. coach, supervise) in the areas of strength & conditioning or human performance
•    Record of (or potential for) scholarship and/or application that demonstrates an understanding of and focus on equity, justice, and innovation.

Desired:
•    Current National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified strength & conditioning certification (C.S.C.S.) or other strength and conditioning related certification
•    Record of excellence in teaching relevant curricula, including strength & conditioning or human performance
•    Demonstrated record of practice or scholarship in relevant fields with a focus on equity.
