ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Idaho State University was founded in 1901 and has grown to be one of the most comprehensive institutions in the country. The University is one of only six institutions in the U.S. offering programs from technical certificates to graduate and professional degrees. As the state’s lead institution in health professions, ISU is home to more than 75 percent of Idaho’s health degree programs. Idaho State University attracts students from around the world to its campus locations in Pocatello, Meridian, Idaho Falls, and
Twin Falls.

The ISU Meridian Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center offers over 30 undergraduate and graduate programs, including online degrees, and serves approximately 1,000 students in Idaho’s Treasure Valley. ISU-Meridian was selected as one of the nation’s top 10 branch campuses by Thebestcolleges.org. It is also home of the L. S. Skaggs Pharmacy Complex and the L. S. & Aline W. Skaggs Treasure Valley Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories.

COLLEGE OF HEALTH

The College of Health (COH) at Idaho State University resides in the Kasiska Division of Health Sciences which also includes a college of pharmacy and medical and dental residency programs and carries the statewide responsibility for Audiology, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Science, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Sign Language Interpreting and Speech-Language Pathology. The College of Health houses 11 departments and offers more than 40 different degrees and certificates.

The College of Health (COH) programs partner with health systems and providers across the state to deliver exceptional clinical experiences while also providing students with opportunities to practice in more than 10 different clinics housed in the COH. The COH provides leadership in rural health care throughout the state and is dedicated to developing innovative solutions to meet the needs of Idahoans through the Bengal Invent program. In this partnership program with our College of Technology, students and faculty design and build novel solutions for health care.

The COH is rapidly growing with an increased enrollment of 717 students in the past five years educating a total of 4,029 students located in Pocatello, at the Meridian Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Caldwell and virtual locations. Our programs prepare students for four of the top 10 jobs (RN, NP, PA, and PT) in Idaho and include seven of the top 20 jobs!

We offer a comprehensive portfolio of programs in beautiful locations across southern Idaho. We like to say here in the college that we put the smile in Idaho! In fact, in 1948 Pocatello Mayor George Phillips passed an ordinance making it illegal “not to smile” in Pocatello. Today, we are known as the “U.S. Smile Capitol.” Everyone is welcome here!

Idaho State University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a professional entry-level degree program preparing students for licensure to practice as physical therapists. The program emphasizes student interaction with patients and clients during classroom, practicum, and affiliation experiences, interprofessional education activities, and an emphasis on service and advocacy. The department runs clinics in Meridian and Pocatello and is integral to a growing sports medicine program involving ISU student-athletes and athletes from the community. Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training are also involved in the interdisciplinary PhD program in Rehabilitation Sciences.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program prepares students to function as health care providers in injury prevention, recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation and is specifically designed to prepare students for a career in allied health care as a certified athletic trainer.

POCATELLO, IDAHO

Founded in 1889, Pocatello was known as the “Gateway to the Northwest.” As pioneers, gold miners, and settlers traveled the Oregon Trail, they passed through the Portneuf Gap, south of town. Stage and freight lines and the railroad soon followed, turning the community into a trade center and transportation junction.

Pocatello is the county seat and largest city of Bannock County. The Fort Hall Indian Reservation borders the city to the north and west.

Pocatello is located 2.5 hours south of Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons National Park, and Jackson Hole. Salt Lake City, Sun Valley, and Boise are less than a 3-hour drive.

Pocatello & neighboring Chubbuck play host to many fun activities for families and visitors alike; surrounded by mountains with renowned biking and hiking trails, the area is also home to outdoor summer concerts, nordic and downhill ski areas, hunting and fishing, and other year-round outdoor activities. Whether you want to enjoy the farmer’s market, visit a freshly updated ski resort within 20 minutes of the city, or go for a hike in Caribou National Forest, Pocatello and Chubbuck have it all!

MERIDIAN, IDAHO

Founded in 1893, Meridian is no longer the small dairy farming community it once was. Today, it’s a charismatic and energetic city full of growth and opportunity. Due to Meridian’s idyllic location, affordable cost of living, top-rated schools, and booming economy, it has been consistently recognized by national publications—such as Money magazine and USA Today—as one of the best cities to live in the United States.

Meridian is centrally located in the heart of Treasure Valley and is a short 15-minute drive from the Boise Airport. Sitting at a population of about 119,000 people, Meridian offers a plethora of amenities including beautiful city parks, locally owned and operated restaurants, shopping, and entertainment options.
