Overview

The Data Intensive Studies Center (DISC) is a new university-wide, interdisciplinary center dedicated to data-intensive research and pedagogy, studying the science of data and its use in application domains that span the breadth of the university. The center will build on existing strengths at Tufts and provide a structure to help realize the promise of the Tufts T10 Strategic Plan. DISC will also create a collaborative, application-driven environment that simultaneously fosters the development of new methods for extracting meaning from data and the application of those methods to a host of domain areas relevant to Tufts. Lastly, the center will provide a university-wide forum for identifying strategic opportunities best addressed by combining expertise in the science of data and application domains.


What You'll Do

DISC is seeking to fill a 2 year renewable staff scientist position at Data Scientist III level. We are seeking a candidate with a background in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or related field with experience analyzing large genomic and transcriptomic (bulk and single-cell) next-generation sequencing data, leveraging publicly available data from publication and repositories (GEO, TCGA, Ensemble, etc.), and proficiency with R and Python programming, statistical analyses and use of next-generation sequencing tools.

 

The Data Scientist III will work independently, but in close consultation and in cooperation with Senior Scientists. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, adapt, and implement analytical workflows and novel methods for large-scale "omics" studies
  • Interpret, summarize, and communicate results
  • Collaborate on current/future grants through participation in grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations
  • Participate in contributing data to publications and presentations as co-author
  • Partiake in teaching, research, and mentoring including providing research guidance to graduate students or postdoctoral scholars


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience typically acquired through a completion of a PhD or Master of Science (MS) degree with 5 plus years of experience
  • A background in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or related field with experience analyzing large genomic and transcriptomic (bulk and single-cell) next-generation sequencing data, leveraging publicly available data from publication and repositories (GEO, TCGA, Ensemble, etc.), and proficiency with R and Python programming, statistical analyses and use of next-generation sequencing tools
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity including significant contributions to peer-reviewed literature and original research contributions to peer-reviewed journals

Special Work Requirements:

  • This is a hybrid role. Employees are expected to be onsite (in Medford) a minimum of three (3) days per work week, and may work offsite the other two (2) days
