The Center for Injury Research and Policy, located in The Research Institute of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a full time Post-Doctoral position in injury research. The person in this position will work under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Ginger Yang, to conduct injury research, primarily on sports injury prevention and control and teen driving safety. The person in this position will primarily focus on enhancing injury research skills including study design, instrument development and validation, data collection methods, and data management and analysis techniques. The person will also participate in scientific writing of conference abstracts, peer reviewed manuscripts, and grant applications, and work toward a goal of becoming independent in his/her research effort.

The Center for Injury Research and Policy is one of 11 CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers and focuses on the prevention of injury among children and adolescents. Its faculty members are active in injury research and prevention on local to global levels. Center faculty members teach and mentor students at The Ohio State University and from across the nation. The Center’s global injury research program includes ongoing projects with its affiliate faculty in low- and middle-income countries and a visiting scholars program. Through multiple partnerships, the Center has established collaborative networks of injury professionals regionally, nationally and globally. A translational research team helps faculty members disseminate their research findings. Columbus, the state capital, is a vibrant, growing community located in Central Ohio. As the fifteenth largest city in the U.S., it boasts a blend of metropolitan attractions and nearby suburban and rural comfort. There are numerous opportunities to enjoy the arts, recreational activities, and cultural and sporting events, and to continue educational endeavors.

1. Conduct systematic literature review and synthesis.
2. Select an appropriate study design, measurement tool(s), and data collection method(s) to address specific injury research questions.
3. Manage and analyze existing injury data analysis, and help plan future research endeavors.
4. Prepare scientific papers from the results of the research work, present findings at local and national research conferences, and publish research papers in appropriate refereed scientific journals.
5. Participate in grant application writing. Prepare to submit proposal(s) to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.
6. If appropriate, collaborate with other ongoing research efforts either at the Research Institute or at The Ohio State University.
7. Help train and supervise research staff as needed in performing specific research activities essential to carrying out the research program.
8. Work toward research independence.
Other information:
1. Earned PhD in the field of Public Health, or equivalent degree.
2. Prior experience of injury and violence research.
3. Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
4. Strong problem solving skills and proficiency with statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and/or SPSS.
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. At least 3 published articles in peer-reviewed journals either as a lead author or co-author.
