Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus is currently hiring a part-time (10 hours a week) Nurse to assesses students’ clinical requirements and provides primary care, health promotion and associated services thereby supporting their academic goals and retention at the university.  The work schedule will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 8am-1pm. 

Responsibilities include the following:

Assesses students’ medical conditions and injuries; interviews student patients, taking an in-depth medical history; develops and/or implements the treatment plan as indicated; makes informed decisions regarding the referral of walk-in patients to the department’s medical staff.
Initiates clinical screening procedures; obtains and interprets diagnostic specimens for onsite rapid screening and external laboratory assay.
Assists the department’s medical staff with clinical examinations and procedures within the scope of professional nursing practice.
Implements the CDC tuberculosis screening protocol for students enrolling from global endemic regions and individuals with a history of exposure.
Documents all patient interactions in the individual student’s electronic health record.
Makes informed decisions according to Federal Aviation Regulations regarding the grounding and subsequent release of ill/injured flight students; documents medical grounding information in the Flight Department’s ETA software.
Educates student patients regarding appropriate methods of self-care and strategies toward disease and injury prevention; collaborates with campus professionals to facilitate programs that promote student wellness.
Reviews the personal medical histories of incoming students; follows up on conditions that have potential for delaying or precluding medical certification for flight training.
Makes appropriate referrals to campus resources as indicated by clinical assessment and interpretation of the care plan.
Assists students with referrals to external medical providers, facilities and agencies, ensuring maximum coverage by the individual’s health insurance plan.
Provides triage and initiates emergency measures, including life support, pending arrival of EMS.
Participates in departmental planning and assessment activities.
Serves as a resource for infection control and communicable disease containment and prevention; assists with crisis intervention.
