Monash University Malaysia is well positioned to take advantage of the University’s many global research networks and continues with a new wave of appointments to generate research applied to global and local issues. We are now seeking an exceptional candidate to join us as Deputy Head of School and lead the School through its next phase of growth. This will see the achievement of an ambitious strategic vision, which defines the future of Medical education at Monash and shapes the future of its disciplines through our national and international research collaborations.

The Deputy Head of School role provides opportunity for a talented and ambitious academic who wishes to utilise managerial experience and skills to capitalise and build on existing research strengths to create a high-performing team of academics and professional staff contributing to the School’s research strategy and output.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished scholar with a M.D. degree. He/she will also have unquestionable integrity, a demonstrated commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture and delivering the University’s research targets.

Key selection criteria

Essential

1. PhD in a relevant academic discipline.
2. Evidence of scholarly activity of an international standard in the relevant discipline including
significant publications in high impact journals, and a demonstrated ongoing high level of
commitment to research.
3. Demonstrated ability to generate significant external research income.
4. Considerable record of successful supervision of HDR students to completion.
5. The ability to make a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the
relevant discipline with evidence of innovation in curriculum development, course design and course
management.
6. Proven commitment to the delivery of excellent teaching and educational services to students and to
effectively liaise with stakeholders.
7. High level of interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to establish good working
relationships with colleagues.
8. Demonstrated ability to make a substantial contribution to administration, management and planning
at the disciplinary level or higher.
9. Substantial experience in academic administration, including people and program management
skills, and the ability to promote a collegial, productive culture and to lead and motivate staff to
deliver the required outcomes.
10. Willingness to implement University policies.

Desirable
1. Demonstrated capacity to provide professional leadership and advice to members of the profession
and the wider community on matters relating to the discipline.
