The Lipids Laboratory (LIM 10), University of São Paulo Medical School, São Paulo, SP, Brazil, offers a post-doctorate fellowship in Lipid Metabolism with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) funding (R$ 6.819,30). The registration deadline is June 30, 2017.

The Lipids Laboratory investigates the development of atherosclerosis in diabetes mellitus with focus in the role of advanced glycation end-products and lipid homeostasis in macrophages. In vivo and in vitro approaches are utilized in order to better understand the role of AGEs and glucose control in macrophage reverse cholesterol transport, mainly related to gene expression, cholesterol efflux, and influx assays, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, inflammation modulation.

The scholarship is linked to the Thematic Project "Unraveling mechanisms of glycemic control and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus: contributions to human health" supported by FAPESP.

The general objective is to uncover molecular mechanisms related to glycemic control and the development of complications in patients with DM1 and/or DM2. In particular, the project is focused on the role of advanced glycated end products in the development of atherosclerosis in humans.

Those interested should be qualified and able to develop research with a focus on macrovascular complications of diabetes mellitus, using techniques of molecular biology and immunohistochemistry in human arteries. Candidates must have MD or PhD in Health Science with a focus in Lipid Metabolism.

It is also necessary to have experience in molecular biology techniques, including RNA and DNA extraction, quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, and data analysis tools, as well as the registration of publications in high quality and high-quality specialized journals.

A short CV with a letter of presentation indicating the reason of interest in the scholarship, with a brief report of experience, and two letters of reference should be addressed to Dr. Marisa Passarelli: m.passarelli @fm.usp.br
