The Department of Pathobiology, Auburn University, is seeking a highly qualified, motivated, innovative, and collaborative immunologist to fill a tenure-track, 12-month appointment, with a significant research commitment. Candidates must have a PhD in Immunology or a related field at the time the appointment begins. Research excellence should be documented with a record of published research in basic/fundamental, translational, applied, or other types of immunology. The existence of an independent research program, or the ability to establish such a program should be demonstrated by the candidates’ training, accomplishments, and grant-writing skills. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are also necessary for individuals seeking this position.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a competitive, extramurally funded, research program in immunology that contributes to the research mission of the Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, and Auburn University. Potential areas of focus include but are not limited to inflammation, host-microbe/microbiome interactions, bioinformatics, global health, vaccine science, autoimmunity, neuroinflammation, cancer immunology, innate immunity, immunopathology, and viral immunity. The successful candidate will also be expected to collaborate with other faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine on immunological aspects of research, and support graduate student and post-doctoral training in immunology and related studies.

The Department of Pathobiology has an active and growing research effort whose programs cover a broad range of areas, with cancer biology and genetics, avian diseases, and infectious disease as foci. Additional programs exist with opportunities for collaboration within the College of Veterinary Medicine and with faculty from across Auburn University (including the College of Agriculture, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, and Harrison College of Pharmacy). The Department hosts diagnostic services that include bacteriology, mycology, virology, anatomic and clinical pathology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics. The department also houses the University core lab in flow cytometry (including high speed cell sorting). Other College core facilities support advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, and in vivo imaging. In addition, through institutional collaboration with the Hudson-Alpha Institute for Biotechnology, a full array of genomic sequencing and functional genomic technologies is available. Auburn University is also an active network member of the NCATS funded Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) based at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
