A Research Fellow position is currently available in the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS).

 

EOS is a University Research Institute in Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

 

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighboring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). Computational resources are available through a dedicated cluster and collaboration with the High-Performance Computing Centre of NTU. In addition, EOS hosts state-of-the-art analytical facilities for petrological and geochemical analysis, and a Community Engagement office that co-creates learning opportunities for a range of audiences to promote a safer and more sustainable future.

 

The successful candidate will under the supervision of Associate Professor Steve Yim to investigate the interactions between climate and air quality, and the resultant impacts on public health and ecosystem. The team's ongoing research is to develop, advance and utilize the state-of-the-art multi-scale atmospheric models, along with measurement and statistical approaches, to understand the mechanisms that drive the climate-air quality interactions, and evaluate the impacts on human exposure, mosquito abundance and soil acidity.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement air pollutant sensitivity calculation in a chemical transport model

  • Develop a response surface model

  • Perform the developed model for different climate change emission scenarios

  • Analyze the model results of various air pollutants considering meteorological processes and chemical reactions

  • Document the results of the tasks in reports and peer-review international journals

 

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science/ geography/ meteorology/ environment

  • Experience in development of chemical transport models especially sensitivity calculation

  • Publications in the relevant work
