The Department of Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF)
invites applications for three full-time, nine-month tenure-earning assistant
professor positions to start fall of 2019.
Applicants with research and teaching expertise in the subject areas of UCF’s
Department of Health Sciences are encouraged to apply. These areas include, but
are not limited to, clinical and community applications of human disease,
pathophysiology, pharmacology, epidemiology, nutrition, behavioral health
sciences, and preventive medicine. In addition to participation in undergraduate
education, student advising, and mentoring, the selected candidate will be
expected to develop and maintain a strong and well-funded research program.
Assignments will include teaching, research, and service, including internal and
external activities that contribute to the advancement of the department, the
college, the university, and the discipline.
Strategic emphasis within the Department of Health Sciences focuses on clinical,
behavioral, and pathophysiological understanding of human and public health. The
department aspires to promote and improve the health and well-being of local and
global communities through transformative, innovative, and inclusive education,
research, and service. With approximately 4,000 undergraduate students, the
Department of Health Sciences is recognized for its superior quality of educational

The Department of Health Sciences is housed within the newly formed College of
Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) at UCF. The college is a core member of
the newly formed UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along with the
existing Colleges of Nursing and Medicine. CHPS hosts four academic units: the
Department of Health Sciences, the School of Communication Sciences and
Disorders, the School of Kinesiology & Physical Therapy, and the School of Social

Position Minimum Qualifications
An academic doctoral degree in a Health Sciences-related field from an accredited
institution with emphasis on disciplines related to the department’s strategic
mission is required by the start of the appointment. Evidence of teaching
experience in subjects within the core health sciences curriculum at UCF, a track
record of research, peer-reviewed publications, and scholarly activities are also
Preference will be given to candidates who have either demonstrated or shown a
clear potential for developing a strong research program that would lead to
extramurally funded research within the department’s strategic emphasis. Previous
experience in teaching pathophysiology, pharmacology, epidemiology, health
behavior, nutrition, clinical applications of preventive health, community or public
health, and/or other core health sciences-related courses within a university setting,
as well as evidence of student mentoring, is also preferred.
