The Division of Community Health Sciences (CHS) in the UIC School of Public Health is an inter-disciplinary group of educators, researchers, practitioners, students and staff dedicated to promoting health equity as a social justice imperative. We focus on the role of fundamental biopsychosocial determinants of health across populations and through the life course. Our applied focus involves translational research and leads to broad-based dissemination of innovative public health interventions from local to global. CHS focuses on training community health scientists at the MPH and PhD levels.
CHS invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a focus on substance use and misuse including opioid addiction and its intersection with mental health. Responsibilities include developing an externally funded research agenda with a focus on community and population-based approaches (prevention, policy, community-level interventions) to the critical issues of substance misuse/opioid addiction and where applicable, the intersection of these issues with mental health, teaching graduate level courses, advising master's and doctoral students, and contributing to the service mission of the division and the school. Anticipated starting date is Fall 2019.
A doctoral degree earned prior to the hiring date in community or population health (in one or more areas across the life course), social/behavioral sciences, health promotion, domestic or global public health, or closely related field.
Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential in the areas of substance misuse and related issues including mental health with a focus on community and population based approaches to address these issues.
Enthusiasm and strong potential for teaching/mentoring graduate students.
Preference will be given to candidates with an MPH from a CEPH-accredited program or school of public health, potential for obtaining independent external research funding, and willingness to contribute to the growth and success of CHS through service.
