The Wadsworth Center is seeking three Research Scientists to lead and support a grant-funded research project to develop new detection platforms and therapeutics for tick borne diseases, and to study the pathogenesis of tickborne infectious disease agents, especially those that cause Lyme disease. The positions are part of the recent initiative announced by Governor Cuomo establishing a collaboration between the Wadsworth Center and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to improve the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease.
The Research Scientist IV will be the lead scientist responsible for overseeing all activities associated with this project, perform and direct research for this project, and serve as the subject matter expert and key liaison to Regeneron.
The Research Scientist II will work with the lead scientist and be responsible for designing experiments and performing scientific research involving host-pathogen interactions.
The Research Scientist I will be responsible for performing scientific research. The incumbent will be involved in establishing various mouse models for Lyme disease and examining the efficacy of potential therapeutics, and develop, validate and perform new diagnostic assays.
These three positions will be based at the Wadsworth Center, the country’s most comprehensive state public health laboratory, with a staff of 700; including more than 100 doctoral level scientists, located in Albany, NY. The Center provides a dynamic research atmosphere focused on infectious, genetic, and environmental diseases and their impact on human health. The incumbents will join a vibrant group of research scientists and epidemiologists that participate in the Center’s Zoonotic and Vector-borne Diseases research focus area. Established research programs include immune evasion and pathogenesis of Lyme disease Borreliae, host and vector factors that determine competence of arboviruses, antibody-mediated protection against infectious agents and population genetics of Anopheles.
The positions are administered for the Wadsworth Center by Health Research Inc (HRI). HRI is a private not-for-profit corporation committed to building a healthier future for New York State and beyond through the delivery of funding and program support to further public health and research programs.
