Job Description:

Assistant Professor – Food Systems and Human Health Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2018, or soon thereafter.

Responsibilities:

Recently formed from the merger of the Department of Food Science and the Department of Human Nutritional Sciences, The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences is part of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, which is committed to an interdisciplinary systems-based approach to both teaching and research. This position will play an important role in the evolution of the new department. The department is home to a B.Sc. in Human Nutritional Sciences that is an accredited program recognized by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice. Furthermore, it supports an undergraduate program in Food Science that is approved by the Institute of Food Technologists. Applications will be reviewed in this context with regard to fit with the program’s teaching and research goals.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Human Nutritional Sciences/Foods and Nutrition (or a related discipline), and relevant research experience in the linkages between food, nutrition, and health policy. Experience with the usage of population-based data (e.g. Canadian Community Health Survey, NHANES, Statistics Canada, provincial administrative health data) to guide policy is an asset. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the potential to develop a competitive externally funded research program, and be expected to develop good working relationships with appropriate stakeholder groups, including industry, government and non-government agencies. Additionally, they will have demonstrated the potential to develop an effective teaching program at both the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as promote the objectives of the Faculty regarding the relationships between food systems and human health. The position will be weighted at approximately 45% teaching, 40% research and 15% service/outreach.
