The Associate Dean for Practice reports directly to the Dean and is responsible for the oversight of all practice-related activities in the College of Nursing. The Associate Dean provides strategic vision and leadership with the College of Nursing’s faculty practice initiatives to include the faculty practice plan, nurse managed clinic (Carolina Family Practice), practice related contractual agreements, and faculty scholarship in practice. The Associate Dean will devote 40% administrative effort, 20% practice, 25% teaching, 15% scholarship/service.
Assures compliance with regulatory, legal and fiscal standards for faculty practice contracts.
Develops, implements, and evaluates individual and group faculty practice activities and contracts in compliance with the College’s Faculty Practice Plan.
Works with Business Director to oversee the fiscal operation of the faculty practice plan and Carolina Family Practice.
Assures compliance with regulatory, legal, and fiscal standards for the CON managed Carolina Family Practice.
Oversees the Carolina Family Practice to ensure clinical effectiveness, quality patient outcomes, meets federal/state reporting requirements and fiscal solvency.
Serves as liaison with Palmetto Health-USC with existing and future contractual agreements.
Assists the Dean in establishing, implementing, and evaluating practice policy and standards for the CON.
Approves, guides, and mentors individual faculty in developing practice roles.
Collaborates and engages with community/regional clinical partners to identify faculty practice opportunities and innovations in health delivery.
Collaborates with Associate Dean for Research in identifying research and funding sources for practice activities.
Collaborates with Associate Dean for Academics and Assistant Deans to ensure all practice sites provide educational opportunities that meet academic clinical experience needs standards.
Guides and mentors clinical faculty in pursuing scholarly endeavors that support practice activities in collaboration with Associate Deans.
Oversees all administration aspects of practice related to contractual agreements.
Participates in the development and implementation of the CON and Carolina Family Practice strategic plan.
Works with the Dean on special projects.
Participates in recruiting and interviewing of prospective faculty candidates.
Participates in appropriate school and university committees and activities.
Work with clinical partners to optimize APRN roles in settings across South Carolina, including residency programs, infrastructure development to optimize practice; stakeholder education on nursing practice, APRN scope of practice, barriers to practice, and solutions for 21st-century nursing practice models.
Required Education and Experience
Earned doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNP), preferably advanced practice nurse. Eligible for licensure in South Carolina. Meets rank for Clinical Professor; Clinical Associate Professor at minimum. Experience with scholarly peer reviewed publications. Experience managing faculty practice contracts and clinics preferably in academic settings. Evidence of understanding of University policies and procedures for education. Demonstrates evidence of collaboration in research, service and scholarship. Ability to work effectively across all levels with the USC health sciences. Strong written and verbal skills. Evidence of ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Administrative and interpersonal skills.
Experience with regulatory, legal, and fiscal standards of nurse managed clinic preferred. History of strategic partnerships with Colleges of Nursing and health system partners. Experienced advanced practice clinician.
