Fully accredited as a school by the Council on Education of Public Health, Temple University’s College of Public Health is a multidisciplinary academic center devoted to an innovative educational and research environment that brings a transdisciplinary perspective to health, wellness and social welfare. Under the leadership of Dr. Resa M. Jones, a nationally-recognized behavioral cancer epidemiologist, we are significantly expanding the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and seek experienced and early career researchers to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

We value diversity and seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary, community-engaged research in epidemiology and experiential training programs. Researchers in all content areas are encouraged to apply. Areas of specific research growth in the Department include cancer prevention and control as well as cross-cutting areas such as social epidemiology/determinants and spatial epidemiology.

The Department. Faculty conduct funded research in several areas, especially behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, obesity prevention, and water-related diseases. The Department enrolls more than 165 students and offers a PhD and MPH in Epidemiology and MPH degrees in Epidemiology, Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, and MS degrees in Epidemiology and Clinical and Translational Medicine. The Department contributes to the College’s nationally recognized BS in Public Health.

The College. A CEPH-accredited school of public health, the College of Public Health is a constellation of 9 academic units of public health, health profession and social work disciplines, enrolling 4,600 students in 8 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs. The College has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in programs, research profile, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and other major funders. Collaborations include Fox Chase Cancer Center, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, Temple’s Health System, other health systems, community health centers, and local and state public health agencies.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry.

Qualifications. A doctorate in epidemiology or related field is required. Those with a strong background in epidemiologic methods and applied epidemiology are especially encouraged to apply. For early career applicants, preferred candidates are individuals currently holding the rank of assistant professor or persons completing or having recently completed a postdoctoral position. Midcareer or senior applicants should have an active, externally-funded research portfolio and research record appropriate to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Cluster hiring of research teams including senior and early career faculty is encouraged.
