Scope of Work
This senior position is responsible for the HSE duties in the Academic Campus inclusive of Planning, organizing, and helping to direct university safety and occupational health program.
Development of HSE objectives: risk reduction: compliance monitoring: workplace inspections: implementation of HSE management systems: emergency response planning: hazard awareness: HSE training; HAZOP studies: risk analysis: root cause analysis: implementation of guidelines and standards: policy writing and incident investigation.
Respected safety and security expert who combines extensive practical knowledge with the ability to drive team performance and deliver and embed effective and safe operating procedures. Demonstrates finely tuned relationship-building skills, and utilizes cultural understanding in and across a diverse and multi-skilled workforces.
Enforces compliance with University safety policies, building life safety and fire codes, national and international standards and reduces or prevents safety hazards, dangers, or accidents in areas of hazardous materials, laboratory, fire, life, occupational and/or industrial hygiene safety.
Develops, recommends, and implements policy on health/safety protection; develops accident prevention and loss control systems and programs and ensures implementation throughout campus & community
Interprets and evaluates university compliance with applicable safety codes
Advises, coordinates with, and provides technical guidance to university staff, faculty, and administrators regarding safety codes, policies and procedures
Monitors safety inspection programs, evaluates program maintenance and determines priority of current hazard correction; makes random visits with inspectors
Provide assistance and guidance in the development and implementation of emergency response plans for the University.
Identifies need for, develops and administers safety training programs for members of university community in response to trends or problems identified or upon request; writes articles for newsletters or safety flyers distributed to university community; conducts training workshops on a variety of safety and technical subjects.
Coordinates and monitors the activities of several working committees such as Lab Safety Officers Committee, Research Diving Safety Committee, Radiation Safety committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, etc.

Competencies
Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational health & safety.
Knowledge of international standards, best practices and regulations relating to occupational safety and health.
Skill in developing occupational health safety manuals, policies, guides, etc.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the University community.

Qualifications
Bachelor Degrees Environmental Health, or any related Engineering degree with similar discipline.
Master's Degree Industrial Hygiene (preferred)

Experience
Minimum of 15 year experience including working in the field of HSE. Strong background in managing research safety programs.
