Juniata College invites applications for the position of Director of the Nursing Program. This tenure-track, 12-month role offers a unique opportunity to lead and provide strategic direction for our nursing education initiatives. The Director will play a crucial role in launching our new pre-licensure BSN program, a significant step forward that has received strong support from the College.
The Director will oversee comprehensive aspects of the Nursing Program, including planning, administration, and budget management. Key responsibilities include managing the development and delivery of the BSN curriculum, as well as strategic planning for student recruitment and retention. Additionally, the Director will serve as the primary contact for accreditation and compliance, maintaining necessary approvals with the CCNE and PA Board of Nursing.
This role also encompasses teaching, professional development, service, and advising as part of the College’s faculty. With the nursing simulation lab renovation set for completion in Fall 2024, the Director will join us at an exciting time of growth and will be instrumental in shaping the future of nursing education at Juniata College.
The ideal candidate will have the vision and energy to lead this program through its current expansion and to drive the development of future nursing initiatives. Duties & Responsibilities:
The Director of Nursing Program shall have the authority, accountability, and responsibility for all aspects of the program including but not limited to:
Lead strategic planning and assessment, in collaboration with academic administration and the nursing community advisory board, and other stakeholders. • Articulate program identity and goals, and their alignment with mission, learning outcomes, and strategic plan goals and objectives. • Lead strategic planning and develop and implement strategic action plan for the program. • Coordinate routine program assessment and follow-through. • Review, evaluate, and revise nursing program curriculum.
Increase the program’s visibility and reputation in the region. • Develop mutually beneficial community partnerships, including cooperative ventures, and clinical placements. • Work with nursing community advisory board to develop and maintain a strong network of support and communication. • Pursue grant opportunities in collaboration with Advancement staff.
Participate in admissions of new students into the program. • Communicate promptly with prospective students and applicants. • Work with enrollment staff to review and make decisions on student applications and scholarships.
Coordinate advising for current nursing students. • Assist in choice of semester’s courses. • Monitor student progress through the program. • Address student concerns.
Market the nursing program. • Consult with marketing and enrollment staff to develop effective marketing strategies & materials • Maintain and update program website.
Supervise nursing faculty and staff. • Coordinate and supervise all faculty teaching in the program. • Review and make decisions upon part-time faculty applications. • Evaluate and provide feedback to program faculty. • Develop, review, revise job descriptions as needed.
Additional responsibilities, including: • Participate in College activities, initiatives, and committees. • Participate in College Advancement initiatives as assigned. • Communicate with the PA State Board of Nursing to meet all requirements. • Conduct faculty evaluations. • Hire, orient, and evaluate full-time nursing faculty.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in nursing and conferred PhD, EdD, or DNP degree. • Unencumbered and current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Pennsylvania with nursing practice experience for at least five years. • Demonstrated satisfactory experience with teaching in an RN program for at least two years. • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with students and scholars from diverse cultural backgrounds. • Knowledge of issues and trends in nursing education. • Experience in community relations/cultivating partnerships. • Demonstrated good judgment and commitment to program excellence. • Interest in understanding and supporting the mission.
