Assistant/Associate/Professor, Lecturer Track (DOQ)

Sports Nutrition Education Coordinator and Assistant/Associate/Professor (Lecturer) Lecturer Track

The Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology at the University of Utah is recruiting a career-line (non-tenure track) faculty member at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Professor (Lecturer) on the Lecturer Track. The successful candidate will serve as the Sports Nutrition Education Coordinator, guiding field experiences and teaching courses in the university's ACEND-accredited Coordinated Master's Program designed to train future Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. Applicants must possess either a PhD or MS degree in a nutrition-related field, be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (or international equivalent), and have experience working with athletes or conducting sports nutrition research. We are seeking a full-time faculty member but can adjust the position to part-time to accommodate candidates with concurrent and complementary professional sports nutrition work.

The University of Utah is a top-tiered research institution ranked nationally as one of the top ten public universities by the Wall Street Journal. The Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology ranks in the top 10 nationally for annual research grant revenues. The Coordinated Master's Program is a two-year graduate program that combines didactic coursework with coordinated, supervised practice experiences. CMP students interested in sports nutrition gain experiences in a variety of settings, including the University's Division I Athletics teams, Olympic sports, professional sports, and community-focused sports programs. The new coordinator will oversee and enlarge CMP sports experiences. This may include, but not limited, to leading sports nutrition theses and focused area of study projects and expanding capstone placement (an advanced supervised practice experience) opportunities. Responsibilities will also include teaching nutrition courses based on the background and interests of the candidate.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's of Science (MS) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Nutrition Science or a related field and credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or international equivalency. Candidate must have extensive sports nutrition professional experience (5 years or more) and have the ability to cultivate a sports nutrition network within the Salt Lake Valley to support student preceptor relationships. The candidate must have 1 to 2 years of teaching and mentoring students in higher education. The candidate must be able to demonstrate their commitment to increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the field of sports dietetics.

Faculty rank and salary commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstration of effective mentoring of students or sports nutrition professionals
  • Current certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
  • Sports nutrition research experience
  • Five years or more experience teaching in higher education
  • Experience working in an ACEND-accredited program
  • Extensive network of sports dietitian colleagues who can serve as potential mentors and preceptors for sports nutrition experiences
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills facilitating collaboration and communication with diverse students, colleagues, and community partners

Experience working with under-resourced populations in a multicultural environment

The University of Utah is a Research I university and a PAC-12 member institution moving to the Big-12 at the beginning of the 2024-25 athletics season. Salt Lake City is experiencing rapid population growth with a disproportionately higher percentage of diverse populations. The increased diversity brings enhanced cultural facilities, performing arts, and other enriching opportunities. Salt Lake City is juxtaposed with the Wasatch Mountains, offering unparalleled opportunities for skiing, hiking, fly fishing, biking, camping, and rock climbing. Eight national parks are within a 5-hour drive from Salt Lake City.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, with the position remaining open until filled.
