Associate / Full Professor-Founding Director – MPH in Epidemiology
The University of Delaware
Newark, Delaware

The Founding Director will work with faculty in the College of Health Sciences to plan and implement a MPH degree in Epidemiology and to interface with other colleges within the University in developing joint MPH programs. Responsibilities will include leadership in hiring and supervision of program faculty, curricular development and assessment, and student recruitment. We envision that the MPH program will develop into a new academic department within the College over a five-year period. The successful candidate will have experience working in an existing MPH program at the rank of associate or full professor and have an active research program, as well as successful teaching experience, with some online teaching experience preferred. A DrPH or PhD in public health or a PhD in a related field with a MPH is required. The position reports to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. All faculty are expected to contribute to a welcoming campus environment that embraces diversity.

Ranked fifth, nationally, among the best places to study the health professions by College Factual, the College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 130 faculty with outstanding research and teaching facilities. The College has recently opened an exciting new 100,000 sq. ft. clinical research facility (pictured above) and will occupy 7 floors in a 10-story tower under construction. The College also includes the departments of (delete your own department) Behavioral Health and Nutrition, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, and the School of Nursing. With annual research expenditures of approximately $26 million, the college currently houses a number of large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD. The college boasts strong research teams in the areas of cardiovascular health, neurological disorders, and other chronic disease conditions, as well as rehabilitation science and concussion. There are also numerous collaborative linkages with our clinical partners.

With roots tracing back to 1743, the University of Delaware combines tradition and innovation, offering students a rich heritage along with the latest in instructional and research technology. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer with diversity as one of its core values and, in that spirit, seeks a broad spectrum of candidates including women, minorities and people with disabilities. The University of Delaware is the recipient of a National Science Foundation ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Grant, focused on enhancing the climate of the university for women and underrepresented minority faculty. Located in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., the University is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Carnegie Research University (with very high research activity, a designation accorded to fewer than 3% of degree-granting institutions in the U.S.), and with external funding exceeding $200 million. A state-assisted, privately governed institution, the University enrolls approximately 17,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty at the University have regularly received annual cost-of-living and merit salary increases and the benefits package is one of the best in the nation. Relocation and start-up funds are available. Appointment date negotiable.

TO APPLY: Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. Nominations and expressions of interest will be held in confidence and references will be contacted only with the candidate’s permission. Applicants should upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references at http://www.udel.edu/udjobs/ Job ID 104825. The letter of application and CV will be shared with the search committee. For information contact Susan J. Hall, Ph.D., Search Committee Chair, 302-831-8372, sjhall@udel.edu.
