The Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH) at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in a discipline of public health at the rank of Assistant Professor. This search is focused on recruiting a faculty member with expertise and interest in conducting translational research (i.e., using system-based approaches to apply research findings into practical applications) across a variety of clinical and community settings and engaging colleagues across disciplines. This position is part of an exciting new initiative at the University of South Carolina, The Center for Clinical & Translational Research at the University of South Carolina (ClinTrUSC).The successful candidate will have an appreciation of health disparities that are endemic to South Carolina and will be expected to: 1) serve as a resource for individuals planning to conduct translational research, 2) function as a collaborator on existing and future research projects, and 3) develop a vibrant independent research area focused on translational public health research.

This position presents an excellent opportunity to collaborate with academic colleagues from different colleges and schools within the University and clinical colleagues engaged in a wide variety of biomedical disciplines and allied health professions (e.g., nursing, physical therapy, nutrition, speech-language pathology and audiology). It also will entail working closely with the community we are here to serve in a manner consonant with the principles of community-based participatory research (CBPR).

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active research program within one of six academic departments (Communication Sciences and Disorders; Environmental Health Sciences; Epidemiology/Biostatistics; Exercise Science; Health Promotion, Education, & Behavior; and Health Services Policy & Management); teach courses in their field of expertise, with a special focus on translational research; mentor graduate students; and contribute to their home department, the Arnold School of Public Health, and USC through professional service.  A qualified candidate will have an earned doctoral degree in some discipline of public health by the beginning date of employment and demonstrated evidence of high-quality scholarly research and the potential to successfully compete for external research funding. 

Located in the capital city of Columbia SC, USC is a comprehensive Carnegie University of High Research Activity and Community Engagement. USC has six Health Science Units in addition to ASPH: 1) School of Medicine in Columbia 2) School of Medicine in Greenville, 3) College of Nursing, 4) College of Pharmacy, 5) College of Social Work and 6) the College of Arts and Sciences. ASPH was founded in 1975. Among public universities in the US, the ASPH ranks second in overall enrollment and fourth in NIH funding. ASPH consists of six departments and several research centers that address topics such as disease prevention, nutrition and physical activity, cancer, health services and policy, rural and minority health, aging, and health disparities. All  departments within public health, the school, and the university provide a strong collaborative environment for cross-disciplinary team science across the public health research continuum.
