Research Associate

A temporary position is available to conduct a systematic review of the recent scientific literature on various enteric and other water-borne and excreta-borne pathogens to update short descriptions of the various pathogens regarding the follow information:

General description of the microorganism (scientific name, taxonomy, structure, morphology, size, composition, human-specific or zoonotic), methods to detect it in environmental samples (water, wastewater, excreta, foods, other environmental media);
Human Health Effects: morbidity, mortality, disease and disease symptom complex, pathology, incubation period and duration of infection and illness, sequelae; epidemiology (transmission routes and portals of entry, at risk groups, geographical distribution, seasonality, infectivity and infectious dose, immunity and contribution to global burden of disease,
Sources, occurrence, extent of fecal and other shedding, association of common source outbreaks (waer, food, etc.) and survival in environmental media (including foods) and factors influencing survival
Routes of exposure and transmission: Person-to-person (animal-to-person and animal reservoirs) waterborne, excreta-borne, airbone, fomites, etc.:
Significane in drinking water. Detection in drinking warter supplies; effects of water treatment, and ability to regrow in drinking water systems:
Significance on food crops and in soil: Detection, effects of treatment processes and ability to regrow:
Significance in human excreta, fecal wastesand sewage and effects of extreta treatment and wastewater treatment processes;
Significance in Recreational waters: Presence in recreational waters and waterborne disease outbreaks
Prevention, Control and management in water, sewage/wastewater, excreta and other environmental exposure sources, expecially treatment processes (physical, chemical and biological), inckuding disinfection.

Candidates must be knowledegable of procedues for a systematic review, the development of search terms and strings and the ability to manage, screen and select the scientific citations developed of bibliographic databases and search engines.
