Position description

The School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley (optometry.berkeley.edu) invites applications for a pool of qualified health science clinical instructors to teach in the School of Optometry should an opening arise. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the School of Optometry. Positions may range from 20% to 100% time.

The responsibilities of the health science clinical instructors include teaching optometry students in the patient care environment or teaching optometry students the basics of the eye examinations sequence in the pre-clinical environment. The School of Optometry has excellent clinical facilities and a large, diverse patient population. Over 85,000 patients are seen annually. About 65 optometry students are graduated annually.

At the time of application candidates must have an OD degree from an ACOE accredited institution and be licensed in the State of California. Residency training and Clinical teaching experience are preferred but not required. The level of appointment will be determined by the experience of the applicant. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Applications should include a CV and brief statement related to the educational and teaching experience of the applicant. Applicants must apply online at the following link: https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/apply/JPF01424.

Candidates should provide the contact information for at least three, but not more than five references at the time of application. Letters of reference will only be solicited for finalists. All letters submitted will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e. dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of confidentiality (http://apo.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html) prior to submitting their letters.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed for department needs, through September 30, 2018. Appointments for fall semester are usually reviewed in May, and for spring semester in November (if applicable). The pool will close on September 30, 2018; if you would like to remain in the pool after that time you will need to submit a new application.
