3. Documents format guidelines:
While Skoltech does not set formal requirements to the format of CV, it is expected that in addition to the typical sections on the education and professional appointments history, the CV will also reflect the following information:

International and national awards and other professional recognition
✅ Teaching
selected examples of courses developed and taught, information on students’ research supervision, examples of students’ achievements (prizes, papers in top refereed journals etc.), involvement in theses defense committees. Examples of guest lectures with indication of the university, professional education programs or workshops developed
✅ Sponsored research
Indication of projects supported with grants or industry contracts, including funding source, dates, title, amount awarded, and status (completed, in progress, proposal under review). Role in the project (Principal investigator, a member or research team)
✅ Innovation and Entrepreneurship
patents and invention disclosures, startup activities (building teams, establishment of companies)
✅ Professional service
membership in professional societies, editorial and advisory boards, organizing committees, etc.
✅ Invited talks and presentations
with indication of conference title and year
✅ Publications
since there is a separate document submitted in the application package, not required as a part of CV
The motivation letter should reflect personal reasoning to join Skoltech and particular Center where a vacancy is opened.
The letter outlines career highlights as well as reasoning to apply to the position. It should not duplicate information indicated in CV, since this is rather a summary of research, teaching and innovation statements, clearly showing the candidate’s areas of expertise and planned contribution to Skoltech.
The motivation letter is typically no more than 1.5 pages of A4.
The Research statement is basically the plan of the candidate’s research at Skoltech – an overview of research agenda and how it will fit the goals and the research program / goals of the Center (Target Domain) where a vacancy is opened. The statement outlines core directions of research, impact on the Center and scientific field on the whole.
Specific goals can be also outlined. In particular, the statement can specify curiosity based and / or problem driven nature of the planned agenda. Also, the statement can indicate potential collaborations with faculty (research groups) of the Center / other Skoltech Centers, as well as research groups or faculty outside Skoltech with a brief reference on the scope of collaboration.
When applying to a faculty position to the Project Center, the candidate should specifically address the problem driven nature of the research program and its relevance to the technology competitiveness of the national economy.
The research statement is typically no more than 3 pages of A4.
Skoltech goal is to provide the highest quality education in most advanced areas of science and technology.
The teaching statement reflects specific plans of the candidate to contribute to the educational domain. This may include development of courses with indication of topics and their relevance to the research field, plans for research advising outlining areas of specialization, proposed teaching approaches and methodologies, including hybrid learning.
The statement can also indicate plans on professional training (programs or courses relevant to the interests of industry clients), and wider outreach (e.g. courses for schoolkids, undergraduates, summer scientific schools etc.).
The teaching statement is typically no more than 2 pages of A4.
The innovation statement summarizes the candidate’s plans to contribute to the innovation and entrepreneurship domain.
This may include indication of the practical application of results planned in the research program, plans for technology commercialization, start-up activities, patenting, mentorship activities.
For faculty positions in the Project Centers, the innovation statement should clearly indicate planned contribution to the development of technologies with indication of TRL, a planned timeline of transfer of technology to industry for implementation and scaling, potential industry collaborators.
The innovation statement is typically no more than 3 pages of A4
Skoltech is strongly committed to the excellence of research, thus key metrics for faculty publication output include papers in top journals, e.g. Nature Index journals, Q1 journals, for the area of Artificial Intelligence – conference papers in A* sources.
The list of publications is made for five years and should be structure by two major categories:
1. Paper published in peer reviewed journals
Papers in top journals (Nature Index journals, A* conferences and other top referred journals) should be mentioned first.
Further papers in Q1 journals are indicated.
Publications in Q2-Q4 are optional for indication, primarily in applications to junior faculty positions.
All papers should be numbered. For all papers, it is required to indicate volume, issue number of the journal, year of publication, page numbers, impact factor of the journal.
