| Job Description | Nominations and applications are now being accepted for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position within the Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Health Professions, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with qualifications and experience. The UAB Department of Occupational Therapy is seeking a dynamic, innovative individual to join the faculty and contribute to the teaching, scholarship, program development clinical practice and service activities within the department. For this position, primary responsibilities will include: · Teaching within the departments graduate and post-professional programs: o Outstanding candidates with expertise in Low Vision Rehabilitation and pediatric practice-based skills and experience will be considered. o Lead the development of low vision programming for national and international enrollees, with specific focus on visual impairment of pediatric and young persons. o Mentoring and advising of capstone projects and student advising. · Scholarship/Research o preference will be given to applicants who can develop an independent research/scholarship agenda at the intersection of occupational therapy and vision science and compete for extramural funding that aligns with the vision and mission of the department and school. · Clinical Practice o In collaboration with the UAB Center for Low Vision Rehabilitation, explore the development of a pediatric occupational therapy/low vision rehabilitation client base. · Service o Participation in department, school, community, and national service activities. Organizationally, the Department of Occupational Therapy is one of five departments in the School of Health Professions (SHP). The department has 17 faculty, including 3 Professors, 3 Associate Professors and 11 Assistant Professors. The department has 5 staff who support specialized areas of the department’s functions – specifically fieldwork, admissions, grant writing/editing, research and grant management. The department has approximately 240 students enrolled across the different programs. The entry-level professional program is currently ranked #23 nationally and #4 in the southeast states. The School of Health Professions is one of the nation’s largest and most diverse schools of its type with over twenty programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. SHP is one of six medical-focused schools in a thriving academic health center. UAB is among the highest tier of US research institutions and SHP is currently ranked in the top three for NIH funding for similar schools.

| Required Qualifications | Candidates should have a degree in Occupational Therapy from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and be eligible for, or will secure, occupational therapy licensure in the state of Alabama. Candidates will have an earned research doctorate (e.g., PhD, DSc, ScD) from an accredited university. Candidates will have additional education/training focused on low vision rehabilitation and pediatric occupational therapy practice. |
