An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Professor/ Reader of Nursing Research to build research capacity and capability in Barts Health NHS Trust and the Faculty of Education and Health in the University of Greenwich.

You will have an international reputation for leadership in nursing research or, if at an earlier stage of their career, will show clear potential to develop such a profile. You will be joining two organisations that are pursuing a dynamic, quality driven research agenda.

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers and the largest trust in the NHS. The hospitals in the Trust offer a full portfolio of services for the diverse communities that they serve and are home to some of Britain’s leading specialist centres including cancer, cardiac, trauma and emergency care. Barts Health also has one of the UK’s busiest children’s hospitals and internationally renowned surgical facilities.

The Trust is a member of UCL Partners, the largest Academic Health Sciences System in the world. The vision is to create a world-class health organisation with an international reputation for excellence in patient care, research and education and one that is dedicated to ending health inequalities in east London.

Nursing research at the University of Greenwich has grown exponentially over the last few years, as evidenced by the results of the recent Research Excellence Framework which evaluated all aspects of our research as internationally recognised, excellent or “world leading”.

Research themes include ageing, social inequality, patients’ experiences, healthcare policy and workforce issues. We are keen to recruit to these areas, but also to add to them.

The University of Greenwich has an excellent reputation for educating healthcare professionals and is committed to the expansion of post-graduate and doctoral provision.

Researchers are embedded in a network of relationships with international research centres, local health care providers, and policy makers and have embarked on an ambitious strategy to develop nursing research to the benefit of patients and public health.  The Professor of Nursing Research will play an important role in delivering this strategy.
