Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai’i Cancer Center (UHCC), located in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Lang Wu at the Population Sciences in the Pacific Program of UHCC.
MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.
DUTIES: Responsible for conducting genetic, molecular, and cancer epidemiologic studies to study genetic, biomarker, and non-genetic factors (e.g., nutritional factors) that are associated with risk and prognosis of human cancers. Contributes to study design, performs statistical analyses, and prepares manuscripts. Presents research data at national and/or international scientific conferences and meetings, as well as internal seminars at UHCC. Trains other group members in data analyses and manuscript writing as needed.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: PhD, DrPH, or MD from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience performing statistical analysis of complex datasets and writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of study designs and statistical analysis techniques for epidemiologic, biomarker, genomic, or other omics studies. Ability to think critically and creatively. Possesses excellent manuscript writing skills and strong communication skills. Proficient in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, or equivalent statistical software). Possesses programming skills and ability to use programming language (e.g., Python or Perl).
Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from date to hire. Must complete online forty (40) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training within two (2) weeks from date of hire or may be subject to termination. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.
POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to the University of Hawai’i‘s Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security policy. Violation of the RCUH’s, the UH’s, or the business entity’s policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). Must complete the University of Hawai’i‘s Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity’s training requirements.
SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in conducting genetic and omics epidemiologic studies. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and possesses strong capability in learning new skills/knowledge.
