The Occupational Therapist will have the responsibility for the coordination of learning activities, development of course content and assisting other faculty and students in the teaching, learning process. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible  for providing counseling and guidance to students and conducting formal classes and clinical laboratory sessions as assigned.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  •     Teach the pre-professional courses assigned in the areas of expertise as documented for qualifications which may be mental health (psychosocial), physical dysfunction, sensory integration, pediatrics or other areas as identified in the occupational curriculum.
  •     Supervise students in clinical/laboratory experiences related to practice areas and other related field experiences  within area of expertise.
  •     Provide academic advisement to students in the pre-professional and professional occupational therapy programs as assigned by the program director.
  •    Contribute to theory base of the profession by conducting research or collaborating in program, departmental,  school or college research projects.
  •     Contribute to professional publications and make scholarly presentations to groups upon request.
  •     Participate in program, department, school, college and University committees as
    appointed/elected.
  •     Participating in programs  of self-development, by attending appropriate workshops, conferences,  seminar, etc.
  •     Maintain membership in professional organizations and eligibility for certification/licensure as appropriate.
  •     Evaluating clinical learning experiences and facilities and making recommendations  to Program Director and/or Academic Fieldwork Coordinator.
  •     Evaluating courses to determine if goals and objective are being met and meeting ACOTE Standards.
  •     Utilizing varied teaching strategies.
  •    Assisting students in applying occupational therapy theories and principles to the practice of occupational therapy.
  •     Keeping the students and Program Director apprised of student needs and progress.
  •     Evaluating effectiveness of own instruction on basis of learner’s achievement and evaluation.
  •     Providing direct health care to clients, which is unrelated to student Fieldwork learning experience.
  •     Participate in writing and securing grants and external funding.

Qualifications

  •     Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy; an earned Doctoral Degree is preferred.
  •     A minimum of three (3) current years in the field of Occupational Therapy, including administrative or supervisory experience.
  •     Teaching responsibilities at a college/university level is preferred but not required.
