The College of Health Related Professions at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center is seeking candidates for the position of Program Chair and Professor, Medical Informatics Program. SUNY Downstate is one of the nation’s leading urban medical centers located in Brooklyn, NY. Brief Description of Duties:
Administration: The Chair is responsible for establishing, implementing and reporting annual program strategic plans, goals and objectives and evaluate outcome. Plan long-term and short-term budget and resource needs, prioritize and recommend acquisitions, monitor revenue and manage budget allocations, in keeping with the policies and procedures of DMC. Identify potential external funding sources and seek funding, if possible. Prepare enrollment, retention and graduation of a qualified student body reflective of the mission of SUNY, SUNY DMC & CHRP. Prepare the Medical Informatics Program for accreditation. Develop new academic track with the Medical Informatics Program.

Curriculum: Supervise the implementation and evaluation of the curriculum. Encourage ongoing curriculum review, and revision including use of appropriate teaching and evaluation strategies, integration of education technology and clinical education.

Faculty, Staff & Students: The Chair is responsible for selecting, developing and evaluating program faculty, adjunct faculty & staff.

Communication: Communicate program’s mission, goals, needs and viewpoints among college leadership, faculty, students, clinical preceptors/sites and the community.

Teaching: Provide classroom instruction 1-2 course/year, including timely assessment of student performance, feedback and professional mentorship.

Scholarship: Foster innovation and discovery among faculty, students & peers. Engage in professional activities (research, professional organization service, grant writing, clinical practice, professional writing for publication and presentation.

Professional Service: Demonstrate a willingness to serve the Program, College & University through productive committee work. Provide leadership to committees and peers and promote the mission of the profession, program, college and/university.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC-UHB Principals of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health Professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in Medical Informatics or related Doctorate.
PREFERRED: Minimum of six (6) years of full-time experience teaching in higher education.
