The University of Michigan School of Public Health seeks an experienced and dynamic public health scholar to lead its renowned Department of Health Management and Policy (HMP) and steward its unwavering mission to ensure access to health and equity for populations in its surrounding communities, across the nation, and around the globe.
Reporting directly to Dean F. DuBois Bowman, the chair of HMP will be an integral part of the school's academic leadership team. The chair will work collaboratively and proactively with school leaders, faculty, students, and staff; with partners in other schools, colleges, and units across the university; and with external stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the University of Michigan, the School of Public Health, and the Department of Health Management and Policy. The next chair will build upon the department's legacy of advancing effective public health policy and enhancing health care and health systems in order to improve population health and to prepare the next generation of public health leaders.
The School of Public Health seeks a leader with an exemplary record of research, scholarship, and practice; prominence in one's field; a strong, demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion, including to the success of underrepresented individuals; experience in academic administration; and a record of successful mentorship and professional development of faculty, staff, and students.
Candidates with relevant expertise in areas including but not limited to health policy, health management, health informatics, health services research, public health law, ethics, and demography as well as with nontraditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D., M.D., J.D., or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. Department chairs in the School of Public Health are expected to be tenured members of the faculty.
Health Management and Policy faculty are committed to research, education, and practice that improve the design and delivery of healthcare, healthcare systems, and population health and inform the development and evaluation of sound and equitable public health policy. The department offers multiple master's and doctoral degrees, including a Masters of Health Services Administration program perennially ranked among the nation's best.
