Position Summary
This is a postdoctoral training experience in a multidisciplinary research team. Division of Behavioral Medicine at UB is one of the most well-funded centers for behavioral research in the area of obesity and health related studies. The Postdoctoral Associate will be supervised by Dr. Kai Ling Kong, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Behavioral Medicine, UB Department of Pediatrics. She is the Principal Investigator for the UB Infant Lab. Her primary research focus is on infant health, specifically infant’s home environments and ingestive behaviors. Her research aims to identify how infant-toddler eating behaviors affect obesity later in life and how early interventions can protect those at risk from obesity. Dr. Leonard Epstein, SUNY Distinguished Professor, will serve as the secondary mentor who is a renowned obesity researcher in the country. The Postdoctoral Associate will allocate time to work on Dr. Kong’s NIH-funded research project, other projects and new independent research. It is common to work more on ongoing projects in the beginning of the postdoctoral experience while transitioning to become an independent investigator. The goal is for the Postdoctoral Associate to become an independent investigator. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise implementation and completion of funded and unfunded projects while coordinating staff members and student volunteers. Responsible for conducting individual and group meetings, writing and implementing laboratory and/or clinical study protocols, training staff and student volunteers, and assisting PI with scholarly related tasks. Supervise research staff and students and assist in the collection of data, administering measures on adults and children, and scoring, coding, and entering data. Responsible for conducting recruitment methods for subject recruitment and assisting with data analysis and the writing of scientific communications resulting from research. Additional duties may include professional correspondence, photocopying, collating, and distributing all project materials and assisting in library research.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD. Must possess strong research skills and be skilled in data analysis. Must have evidence of first author peer-reviewed publications and a flexible working schedule. Must have good communication, PC computing, organizational, time management, writing, and problem solving skills. Ability to work with infants and toddlers and a diverse group of people. Must have good managerial skills and be an independent worker. At least two years’ experience in patient contact, data collection, and data analysis. Must be willing to obtain CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in Child Development Psychology (preferred), Developmental Neurobiology, Exercise Physiology, Psychology or obesity/health related field. Be interested in working with infants and toddlers.
