The School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP) at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, seeks a Chair for the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior (CHHB). We seek candidates with a strong record in academic leadership and research in community health, health behavior, or a related field. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm and vision for advancing the department’s academic programs, research portfolio and service engagement. CHHB is committed to developing an excellent and diverse community of scholars and students engaged in research, education and service. Candidates must have either a doctorate in public health or related discipline or an MD, with relevant experience in research, administration, teaching and mentoring in community health, health behavior or a related field. The candidate should have the ability to mentor faculty and to provide leadership for the educational programs. Candidates should be at the rank of full professor or with demonstrated academic experience and scholarship to be appointable at that rank with tenure.
Departmental faculty research interests include health disparities, emergency preparedness, judgment and decision-making, cancer, obesity prevention, physical activity, diet, sexual and reproductive health, tobacco use and substance abuse. CHHB houses academic programs that include two MPH programs (MPH in Community Health and Health Behavior and Individualized), and MS and PhD programs in Community Health and Health Behavior. CHHB is part of the http://www.sphhp.buffalo.eduSchool of Public Health and Health Professions, founded in 2003 and accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Programs in the school include new and growing undergraduate majors in public health and statistics. CHHB has a history of strong collaborations including with faculty from other departments in SPHHP, other Schools in the UB Academic Health Center (Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) and with other University at Buffalo faculty. In addition, they collaborate with community-based organizations, small businesses, health departments and affiliated institutions, including Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute, the Clinical Research Institute on Addictions, the Veterans Administration, hospital systems, and other agencies in the region.
