Overview

The Department of Public Health & Community Medicine is distinguished by a strong faculty with a broad multidisciplinary approach to public health and clinical issues. It is devoted to the promotion of public health through education, research, population-based and patient-centered advocacy, shaping health policy, and community service.

The faculty work in five broadly defined research areas. Much of the research is translational, from bench to bedside, and more often bench to community and to policy. The research groups have extensive collaborations across Tufts, Boston, the United States, and globally. There are also collaborations with community-based organizations, state and local health departments, and with industry.


What You'll Do
The Data Analyst will be responsible for data management and statistical analyses for an ongoing NIH funded R01 project using DNA methylation data (850K arrays) obtained on participants enrolled in the National Lung Screening Trial. The study aims to derive blood methylation profiles to identify individuals at high-risk of developing lung cancer and to distinguish benign from cancer nodules found during low-dose CT scans. All data are stored in Tufts high performance computing (HPC) cluster located on the MGHPCC (with NIH-level controlled access). All high-dimensional data analyses, including machine learning programming, will be conducted in R on the HPC cluster. Job responsibilities will include statistical analyses, creating summaries and reports, manage data, and provide interpretation of results to support research findings.

Data Analysis: 

  • Work with managers/investigators to develop and implement analysis plans
  • Filter or clean the data to remove errors and ensure consistency
  • Correct errors or remove data from database
  • Draft tables and develop figures for manuscripts/reports and presentation materials
  • Construct data files in multiple formats for analysis
  • Perform appropriate statistical analysis such as correlation, regression or time series
  • Interpret data and summarize results

Data Management: 

  • Develop, modify and document coding system
  • Maintain detailed annotation to all documents
  • Enter or oversee entry and verification of data
  • Update and maintain data sets and ensure data security

Miscellaneous/Other duties as assigned: 

  • Perform library and other database searching
  • Identify new approaches and R packages for analyses 
  • Draft updates, status reports
  • Meet with research team 


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience typically acquired through a Master's Degree and 1-3 years related experience 
  • Advanced R programming and data manipulation skills and experience creating data entry screens, verification and documentation
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, math and writing skills 

 

Pay Range

Minimum $54,500.00, Midpoint $68,100.00, Maximum $81,700.00
 
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
