Position Title: Department Head/Associate Professor/Professor
Department: Graduate Public Health/CVM

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

Build a cohesive research agenda and grow the public health research enterprise
Market and grow the undergraduate program to enhance and maximize course offerings to meet the need of both in-person and online students
Engage campus, local, and broader communities for long-term growth and maximize impact of public health in improving community health
Develop a long-term strategic plan which incorporates priorities and enjoys buy-in of key stakeholders
Serve as a strong leader, role model, and advocate for the Department to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in innovative teaching, research, and service
Participate in classroom and laboratory instruction of graduate students, interns, and summer program students in the College of Veterinary Medicine
Demonstrate creative scholarship and collaborative research activities in the College and develop innovative teaching and service programs for students and community collaborators
Participate in the recruitment and development of students entering the public health pipeline
Other responsibilities include implementing and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures that impact the learning environment as delineated in the CVM and DGPH student handbooks. The Department Head is also a leader and an integral part of the DGPH with a direct report to the Dean and an indirect report to the Associate Dean for Research and Advanced Studies (ADRAS) CVM.
Provision of leadership and supervision of all faculty and staff in the Department including assignments to committees and development opportunities
Review and approve research and community engagement projects in the Department
Participate in the monthly CVM Leadership Team meetings
Ensure that a course schedule is set and listed in colleague for students to register each semester
Work with Institutional Effectiveness to develop and track metrics for student success and faculty effectiveness
Collaborate with other Department heads across the University to create opportunities for collaborative research and increase institutional capacity and effectiveness
As an academic faculty;
Engage in teaching of a range of Public Health courses (e.g., Foundational Courses under new CEPH guidelines)
Conduct community-based and/or translational research with diverse populations
Engage in advisement and mentoring of students
Experience with face-to-face and online instruction
Scientific presentations on national/international stages
Scientific communication via conference proceedings as well as manuscripts published on peer-reviewed journals
Record of funded research/projects
Assist other departments in the College or other health and/or business settings with expertise in study design and data analysis using appropriate software: SAS,SPSS, or other statistical technology
DrPH or PhD preferred
Master of Public Health (MPH) and other related terminal or professional degree in a public health related field
(Dr. PH, PhD, MD,JD, etc.) required
A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in higher learning institutions
Knowledge of statistical/analytical principles
Knowledge and understanding of community-based research techniques
Has knowledge of data analysis and information technology and implementation in an educational environment
Demonstrated ability to provide direct leadership using appropriate management skills including staff supervision, budget administration, decision-making, effective communication, and time management
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups (faculty, staff, students, and clients) openly and honestly in verbal, written and electronic forms.
Interpersonal skills to effectively function in an educational environment.
Has organizational, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
Commensurate with education, training and experience
