The College of Health, Arts & Sciences (HAS) invites applications for the role of Associate Dean, College of HAS, on the Klamath Falls campus of Oregon Tech (Oregon Institute of Technology).
The Associate Dean of the College of Health, Arts, and Sciences (HAS) plays an important role in leadership of the College as a key member of the Dean’s staff. The Associate Dean represents the College in the absence of the Dean and works with the Dean in developing a vision and goals for the college, while executing strategies to pursue College-wide priorities.
The College of HAS is one of two Colleges at Oregon Tech and provides educational opportunities in the areas of health, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, and communication; it also houses most of the departments responsible for general education. Oregon Tech is looking for an individual to provide strong leadership, guidance, and oversight preferably in the areas of health and pre-professional programs. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating an environment that supports innovative models that stimulate teaching and student learning. The Associate Dean will lead the delivery of high-quality curriculum and supervise faculty and staff. The Associate Dean provides counsel to the Dean on a wide array of matters including national trends in health science, pre-professional programs, and the arts and sciences; management of laboratory and simulated learning environments; expansion of externship experiences, applied research; and programmatic review and accreditation.
In addition to the above, the Associate Dean must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; the ability to innovate, lead, manage and develop a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and expertise; significant experience in leadership positions with responsibly for complex administrative functions; and proven experience in managing competing interests.
The Associate Dean works with the dean and department chairs in managing class scheduling, enrollments, workload, assessment, and recruiting and retention. The Associate Dean of HAS works cooperatively with the Provost’s Office, Registrar, Admissions, Student Affairs, Facilities, Strategic Enrollment Management, and University Development to support the College and University. They also assist departments with programmatic review and accreditation, especially in the area of allied health.
The Associate Dean serves as the Dean’s liaison to College committees and represents the College on various university and community committees and at events throughout the year. Coordinates College and university award and recognition opportunities.
Departmental Information:
The College of Health, Arts, and Sciences at Oregon Tech is one of two colleges of the university and provides teaching, learning, and scholarship in the health sciences, humanities, social sciences, communication, mathematics, environmental science, biology, and pre-professional programs leading to work in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and other graduate level work. This work takes place in nine departments including Communication, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Natural Science, Health Science (Doctor of Physical Therapy, Respiratory Care and Polysomnography).
Programs are found at three locations across Oregon; Klamath Falls, Wilsonville, and Salem and also online. The College also enjoys a relationship with Oregon Health Science University through three dually supported programs. The College offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and one doctoral degree. Programs are guided and nurtured by over 80 committed full-time as well as a number of well-qualified part-time and adjunct faculty members.
Qualification Requirements:
- PhD or terminal degree in a department represented in the College of Health, Arts, and Sciences
- Three years of leadership experience as department chair, program director or equivalent academic leadership position
- Tenure eligible within a department of the College
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Student first perspective
- Experience working with faculty
Preferred Qualifications:
- A background in allied health and experience with allied health accreditation
- Experience with scheduling, enrollment, workload, assessment, accredited programs, recruiting, and retention
- Detail-oriented
- Teaching experience
