Position Description: The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa seeks applications for a 12-month full-time clinical faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor. Appropriate candidates are those with expertise in the area of aural (re)habilitation with infants, children, and adults, as well as an interest in program development and a strong record of professional productivity. This individual will be expected to provide interprofessional practice with audiologists at the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic to support a full range of aural (re)habilitation services for cochlear implant and hearing aid users.

Responsibilities: 1) provide clinical instruction to speech-language pathology and audiology graduate student clinicians in a clinical setting which provides routine evaluation and intervention services across the lifespan; 2) direct a summer preschool program and school-age summer camp for children who are deaf or hard of hearing in collaboration with graduate students and other faculty; 3) collaborate with clinical and didactic faculty members to coordinate student learning, clinical care, and outreach programs; 4) participate in professional development and service activities; 5) facilitate sustainable partnerships with other service providers within the university, as well as with school-based professionals in the university, community, and state.

Required Qualifications: 1) Master’s degree or PhD in speech-language pathology or related area of study from an accredited program; 2) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology; 3) at least 3 years of clinical experience; 4) specific clinical expertise in the area of aural (re)habilitation; and 5) eligible for Iowa licensure.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with 1) clinical instruction; 2) speech/language disorders; 3) literacy development; 4) development and implementation of clinical programming; 5) administration and leadership (e.g., involvement in professional organizations).

Salary: Competitive and negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Appointment Start Date: July 1, 2021

The Wendell Johnson Speech & Hearing Clinic is a thriving clinic within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The clinic maintains active collaborations with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Otolaryngology and the Center for Disabilities and Development at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
