The mission of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives. The Nutritional Immunology Team investigates the role of dietary components and their interactions with other environmental factors and genes in age-associated changes of the immune and inflammatory responses. Our research looks to reverse and/or delay the onset of these immunologic and age-related changes by appropriate dietary modifications and to determine the molecular mechanisms by which nutrients modulate immune cell functions.

What You'll Do

Conducts a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experiments with accuracy.  Performs specialized techniques and makes decisions regarding the appropriate protocol or procedure necessary to achieve desired results, the reliability and accuracy of results, and whether modification or repetition is necessary. Records test results and analyze data derived from experiments. 

What We're Looking For


•   Conducts experiments following appropriate protocols and procedures to achieve results

•   Performs techniques such as tissue culture, pcr, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis, protein purification      and others

•   Records results and maintains accurate records of experiments

   •  Examines reliability of results and determines whether modification or repeat of procedures is necessary

•   Performs limited data interpretation and assists with statistical analysis and summaries

•   Maintains laboratory equipment and orders/keeps inventory of supplies

•   Monitors animal colonies and performs husbandry, collects samples and maintains census records

Minimum Required Experience, Education, Background, And Certifications/Licenses

Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

Bachelor’s degree in science and at least one year of related laboratory experience

Additional Preferred Experience, Education, etc. 

Advanced knowledge and experience with laboratory techniques and procedures

Knowledge of basic statistics
