Inequities and health disparities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work: This understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit is the foundation of our college. Temple University College of Public Health’s interprofessional culture fosters collaboration both within and outside the College. We value differences among our faculty and believe that we can better serve and understand our Philadelphia community through the diversity of our individual faculty and our disciplines. Join us in our mission to develop progressive, compassionate researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to build a better tomorrow, grounded in creating the environments and health infrastructure that will make us the healthiest nation.

The Position. We seek faculty with expertise in all areas of interest, but particularly welcome clinicians and practitioners to teach courses in our DNP program. A wide range of populations (executive leadership, children, adolescents, adult-geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, etc.) to build instructional faculty in our growing DNP program. Faculty candidates with experience in teaching interprofessional education courses, executive leadership courses, hybrid teaching experience, and community engaged teaching focus are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and Interests. Candidates should have at least 5 years clinical/practice experience, hold RN licensure and appropriate certification in Pennsylvania. Candidates must have earned terminal degrees in nursing, hold a doctorate, and bring at least 3 years teaching experience, including didactic courses in person or online as well as clinical teaching/supervision in hospital and community health settings. Applications from persons experienced in online teaching who are familiar with learning management systems and communication/educational software are particularly welcomed. Candidates will be eligible for the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. COVID-19 vaccinations are required for employment at Temple University unless granted a religious or medical exemption (see www.temple.edu/coronavirus). We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaborative education who can model inclusive and anti-oppressive practices for future generations of nurses.

The Department. As of July 2022, Dr. Chaudron Carter Short has been appointed Chair and Director of the Department. This unique and strategic appointment of a health system executive who also serves as Chair of the Department will provide nursing students an exceptional opportunity to work alongside Temple nurses to gain critical clinical training. We are also excited to strengthen our already deep ties between The College of Public Health and Temple University Health System. The Department aims to be a leading force in community-engaged, collaborative efforts to achieve health equity and a quality of life for all, preparing a diverse nursing workforce who excel in leadership, practice, research and scholarship. We aspire to provide excellence in academic programming that is responsive to the health needs of individuals and populations, within the context of community, defined as a social and physical environment where living occurs. We are committed to the highest level of caregiving that is prevention-oriented and evidence-based and provided in collaboration with the community and other professionals and disciplines.

We enroll nearly 500 students annually and offer 2 accredited programs. Our 8-semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, with freshmen admission is recognized for its high NCLEX pass rate, clinical affiliations with outstanding health care facilities in the Philadelphia area, and 5-semester community home rotation with a population-based, service-learning focus. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice program includes post-baccalaureate and post-master’s options with concentrations in Adult Gerontology Primary Care and Family-Individual across the Lifespan. The post-master’s program prepares graduates for leadership roles in a variety of settings. Expansion of graduate program offerings is anticipated and will include additional DNP specialties, post-masters’ certificates, and a master’s direct entry program for non-nursing college graduates.
