Post-Doctorate – Change in the expression of glucose transporters in the central nervous system and its correlation with type 3 diabetes mellitus (DM3).
The Laboratory of Endocrinology and Metabolism (Institute of Biomedical Sciences – University of São Paulo, Brazil) is offering a post-doctorate fellowship whose objective is to investigate if changes in the expression of glucose transporters and if epigenetic changes in the hypothalamus participate in the progression of obesity to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and type 3 diabetes mellitus (T3D), with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) financial support. Application deadline is June 10, 2018.
The scholarship is linked to the Thematic Project "Unraveling mechanisms of glycemic control and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus: contributions to human health", supported by FAPESP (#2016/15603-0), and coordinated by Dr. Ubiratan Fabres Machado. The general objective is to uncover molecular mechanisms related to glycemic control and the development of complications in patients with diabetes mellitus and includes changes in the hypothalamus of patients with T2D. Candidates must hold PhD Degree in Health Sciences, related to diabetes mellitus and its complications.
The present Post-Doctorate project aims to investigate if changes in GLUT2, SGLT1 and TXNIP expression in hypothalamus, as well as if microRNA- and post-translational chromatin modifications-mediated epigenetic changes in these genes participate in the etiopathogenesis of T2D and/or T3D. Candidates must have prior knowledge and experience in:
- Diabetes and risk factors associated to its complications
- Epigenetic mechanisms associated with chronic hyperglycemia
- Thioredoxin antioxidant system and TXNIP
- GLUT2 and SGLT1
- Analysis of clinical and biochemical data related to diabetes mellitus
- Statistical analysis of population groups database
- qPCR for mRNAs and miRNAs
- In silico analysis of miRNAs
- ChIP assay for evaluation of histone methylation and acetylation
Applicants must send one presentation letter summarizing the reason of interest in the scholarship and previous scientific experience, two letters of references, and a short CV (foreign applicants) or "Currículo Lattes" (Brazilians) to Dr. Ubiratan Fabres Machado: email@example.com.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7.174,80 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
