The School of Public Health at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-N.O.) is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track who will be named to the Tomas and Susan Nolan Professorship. This newly endowed Professorship aims to “To support a faculty member who is dedicated to advancing equity and disease prevention in women’s health outcomes.” The new faculty member is expected to engage in three main activities: teaching, research/scholarship and health policy development. This is a tenure track faculty position in our Behavioral and Community Health Sciences program.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in student mentoring and advising, teaching behavioral and community health courses, to collaborate with researchers, and to establish independent, externally funded practice and/or research projects. A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH) in a relevant behavioral health science is required. Experience or expertise in applied behavioral theory, particularly maternal child health, health promotion, community health, health disparities, behavioral policy, and/or use of a social-ecological framework are of particular interest.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with potential for, or demonstrated record in, development of behavioral and community health research and teaching experience; a history of behavioral and community health applied practice and/or policy experience; demonstrated ability to publish in the peer reviewed literature; and, a demonstrated ability to write, and acquire, outside grants and contracts.

The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-N.O.) is located within the biomedical district of New Orleans. It consists of six professional schools and eight Centers of Excellence. The School of Public Health (SPH) provides five Master’s level, three PhD level, and one bachelor’s level program in addition to its numerous research and service programs in order to advance the public’s health and well-being through education, research, and service, with a focus on issues affecting Louisiana. The Behavioral and Community Health Sciences Program faculty have extensive research collaborations with state and federal agencies, as well as with foundations. We teach a rigorous curriculum that leads to Masters of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Behavioral and Community Health Sciences are concerned with promoting wellness, preventing disease, and improving the quality of life among marginalized communities and populations. Our program advocates the use of a socio-ecological approach to identify and understand the social, cultural, and bio-behavioral determinants affecting health.
