Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar Employee
Salary range: The UC postdoc salary scales set the minimum pay determined by experience level at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/oct-2024-scales/t23.pdf. A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,737 - $74,425.

Percent time: 100%

Anticipated start: June 2025

Position duration: The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Position description

The UC Berkeley School of Public Health is consistently ranked in the top ten public health schools in the United States. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to collaborate with students, postdocs, and faculty members across the School and campus.

Dr. Carly Hyland, an Assistant Professor of Cooperative Extension with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and UC Berkeley's Division of Environmental Health Sciences, is seeking Postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will work on several studies focused on characterizing and mitigating climate-intensified environmental and occupational health threats among agricultural and food systems workers.

The successful candidate will help lead primary data collection, community engagement, research communication, and translation to policy focused on mitigating the impacts of climate change among farmworkers. Examples of current projects include:

  • Evaluating the impact of farmworker-informed workplace interventions on mitigating occupational heat stress.
  • Examining strategies to improve farmworkers' protection during disasters and climate-intensified events, including wildfires, floods, and heat waves.
  • Advancing evidence-based policies and programs to mitigate farmworkers' exposure to pesticides during the perinatal period.

The candidate will have an opportunity to gain experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a doctoral degree (or equivalent international degree) program.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Doctorate (or equivalent international degree).
  • No more than three years of postdoctoral experience at the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Fluent in both written and verbal Spanish.
  • Experience with primary data collection/field work, preferably with farmworkers.
  • Experience in community-engaged research.
  • Experience in research translation and communication.
