Departmental Overview

As a national collegiate leader, UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to minimize the impact of illness, emotional distress and injury on studies and work. Involves analytical studies on a variety of mental health policies, projects, programs and issues in support of Cal Mental Health Services (CALM-H) and the development of new and changing mental health systems and programs. Assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to CALM-H and other stakeholders.

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field of program management and recognized expertise in program management; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage and lead programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with mental health programs and related business proposals with broad impact across CALM-H . Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes as directed by CALM-H (Innovation Development and Operations/ Wellness and Care System.)

  • Proposes, leads and / or participates in CALM-H policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups.
  • Builds and tracks meeting agendas, develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for CALM-H research initiatives and programs (including, but not limited to, Compassionate Crisis Response Program, ADHD program, Crisis, Comprehensive Intensive Care Team and Stepped Care model development and integration at UC Berkeley).
  • Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside of CALM-H.
  • Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies.
  • Leads efforts to conduct highly complex analyses in support of both business and wellness related programs within CALM- H including development and tracking of policies and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with campus and UHS partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new mental health programs and processes.
  • Develops and advocates solutions to CALM-H program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs.
  • Presents and develops complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options related to CALM-H programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational or research specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications


  • PMI Certification preferred.

Salary & Benefits

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $77,300.00 - $113,600.00.
