Love data? The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow interested in Data Science and Bioinformatics.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery aims to pioneer musculoskeletal discovery and innovative care to transform lives.
The fellow will work on NIH-funded studies that seek to harness quantitative imaging data to guide patient selection for minimally invasive back pain treatments. He or she will use and develop advanced statistical and machine learning methodologies to analyze existing and to-be-collected patient images (cross-sectional and longitudinal) to construct models of disease prognosis and treatment response. The fellow will join a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, and Radiology & Biomedical Imaging.
The successful candidate will benefit from a dynamic learning and research environment that includes access to extensive clinical and basic science resources at UCSF. Numerous opportunities for academic enrichment and collaboration exist within the Clinical & Translational Science Institute, Quantitative Biosciences Institute, the Bakar Computational Health Science Institute, the NSF/industry-funded Center for Disruptive Musculoskeletal Innovation, the Core Center for Musculoskeletal Biology and Medicine, and the Precision Medicine in Rheumatology Center.
Ph.D. in data science, biostatistics, informatics, or related field
Background in clinical imaging and image analysis
Familiarity with biostatistics and machine learning methodologies
Strong problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and ability to build new software tools
Good communication skills in written and verbal English
Documented experience analyzing complex datasets in programming languages such as R and/or Python
Successful publication record
