Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Safety Science with emphasis in occupational safety or industrial hygiene. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Occupational Safety/Health, Industrial Hygiene, Human Factors/Ergonomics, Safety Program Management, and related areas. The successful candidate will also assist with graduate student research for the Master of Science-Safety Science program. This position will also include advising students as they explore different options with internships, research, coursework, and career trajectories.
The position is housed in the Department of Safety Sciences in the College of Aviation, which offers a Master of Science in Safety Science degree and supports the Undergraduate Aviation degree with safety courses. The department is home to the largest aircraft accident investigation lab at a university; as well as ergonomics and human factors laboratories with motion measurement systems and industrial hygiene equipment. It is also home to the Robertson Safety Institute (RSI), a consulting/training institute that promotes industry collaborations and professional education both on campus and externally.
The outstanding candidate will have a doctoral degree in Occupational and/or Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Human Factors/Ergonomics, Industrial or Human Factors Engineering, or closely related discipline. Candidates with familiarity or experience in occupational safety, industrial safety, or related fields will be given top priority. Candidates with a Master’s degree and applicable industry experience or ABDs with a clear plan for completion are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduate students is expected. Practical or industry experience is strongly valued.
The candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of faculty in supporting the success and growth of the graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as supporting education in related degree programs. An interest in engaging in scholarly activities that involve undergraduate students in research, grant proposals, or industry contracts is ideal.
