Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
The RAISE Initiative (Race, Inclusion, and Social Equity) of the Ohio State University (OSU) seeks to improve health equity through research contributing to an understanding and reduction of the impact of the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) on vulnerable and disenfranchised communities. We are committed to recruiting, retaining, developing, and advancing a cadre of SDOH-focused faculty, providing robust mentoring, and embedding them in interdisciplinary teams committed to narrowing social disparities impacting health equity. Specific research to address the SDOH is imperative as these nonmedical vital signs impact health to a greater degree than medical interventions. Challenges to be addressed include our ability to identify SDOH systematically and proactively or create interventions that meet the needs and expectations of the community.
We are seeking applications for up to three full-time tenure-track faculty at all ranks who are excited and committed to this call for action. All positions are joint appointments with a majority appointment within one of two of the following units: Public Health (Division of Health Behavior and Health Promotion), College of Arts & Sciences (Psychology), Engineering (Computer Science and Engineering), Medicine (Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, Department of Biomedical Informatics), or Nursing. Up to two of these positions could be hired as Fellows to Faculty at OSU, an innovative program in which successful candidates begin their career with two years of post-doctoral training followed by a position as a tenure track assistant professor. Expertise can include but is not limited to public health, social and behavioral sciences, health professions, nursing, artificial intelligence (AI), data science and analytics, and biomedical informatics.
The search committee is especially interested in candidates who can demonstrate (1) a record of high-quality interdisciplinary research and scholarship, or for Assistant Professor candidates, demonstration of a solid inter-disciplinary research agenda and publication and external funding capability, and (2) potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring of students from diverse backgrounds. As part of OSU’s commitment to RAISE, we request candidates provide: (1) a description of how current and future program of research demonstrates a focus on the SDOH and improving health equity and (2) a description of how their plans for developing interdisciplinary academic programming. It is envisioned that the selected three candidates will join other existing faculty or newly recruited faculty from other avenues to form a cluster dedicated to study of SDOH as they pertain locally to Ohio and nationally.
Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in public health with a focus on social or behavioral science, or in a closely related discipline by the start of employment. Applicants must have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and teaching excellence. In particular, we are searching for a highly exceptional health behavior scientist for this role in the areas of health disparities and health equity. We especially welcome scholars whose research seeks to inform culturally appropriate interventions for the prevention/reduction of health disparities. Applications from scholars who incorporate multilevel and intersectional frameworks that inform intervention development, implementation, and evaluation are highly responsive to this call.

The College of Public Health
The College of Public Health is Ohio’s first accredited college of public health. First established in 1995 as part of the College of Medicine, the University Board of Trustees created the College of Public Health in 2007. In 2023, U.S. News & World Report ranked Ohio State’s College of Public Health graduate program 22nd of all Schools of Public Health. Division of Health Behavior and Health Promotion
The Division of Health Behavior and Health Promotion includes 11 full-time faculty members who are engaged in independent funded community-engaged research as well as teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Faculty collaborate with researchers from various colleges, centers and institutes, including the Colleges of Medicine, Institute for Population Research, and the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center. Research expertise includes health equity and disparities, tobacco and substance use, cancer prevention and control, sexual and reproductive health, vaccine adoption, and global health.
