Full-Time Faculty Position in Communication Sciences and Disorders

Join our community and experience Emerson College!

Emerson College, the nation's only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts, is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity-in people, curriculum, and the college's intellectual and geographic communities. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track (Assistant Professor) or full-time renewable non-tenure-track ("Term") position; we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in the area of neurogenic communication disorders, including motor speech disorders, as well as candidates who can offer courses in anatomy and physiology for speech and hearing. This position is full-time, in-person on our Boston campus. The teaching load may include graduate and/or undergraduate courses, offered on-campus and/or online, as determined by the needs of the department. The appointment starts August 21, 2025 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 21 & 22, 2025; an earlier start date may be negotiable.

Required qualifications include: a doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Communication Disorders or a related discipline in hand at the time of appointment, college-level teaching experience and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from various backgrounds. Tenure-track candidates will be expected to maintain an active program of research. All candidates will be expected to engage in teaching and service. We prefer individuals with expertise in Communication Disorders but will consider individuals in related fields. ASHA certification and experience with online pedagogy are also strongly preferred. We welcome applicants interested in taking on administrative roles in the short- or long-term.

Emerson College believes the pathway to achieving inclusive excellence and fostering a campus climate where everyone can thrive is only possible in an authentically equity-centered, accessible, and socially just environment. As a community of storytellers, we continually strive to cultivate a community that draws upon the widest possible pool of talent, characterized by the intentional inclusion of individuals from varied cultures, races, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations, linguistic backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, life experiences, nationalities, perspectives, beliefs, and values.

Emerson College enrolls nearly 5,300 graduate and undergraduate students from 49 states and more than 70 countries. Its main campus is located in the dynamic, multicultural city of Boston. The college also has campuses in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. Emerson's commitment to inclusive excellence is supported by a range of resources such as the Office of Internationalization & Equity, the Social Justice Collaborative, and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Emerson's CSD program, one of the oldest and most respected in the country, is highly ranked and offers state-of-the-art, accessible, on-campus clinical facilities and a wide array of off-campus clinical sites, integrating our students and faculty with regional communities. Through our traditional on-campus programs and our innovative online modality, we prepare a diverse population of students for excellence in Speech-Language Pathology.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and most recent course evaluations. Tenure-track candidates must also submit a research statement. Please provide the names of three references who will be contacted when the applicant becomes a candidate for the position (not to be contacted without the candidate's approval).

At Emerson College, we strive to create an institutional culture of belonging. We believe in co-creating a learning and working environment that is equity-centered and inclusive, where people can find authentic community, engage in authentic growth, and be their authentic and full selves as learners, creatives, scholars, and professionals. To that end, we want to retain candidates who are prepared to operate effectively in a diverse institutional environment that holds these values. In addition to the application materials listed above, please let us know how you might contribute to our Emerson community by selecting one of the following prompts to expound upon in your application materials in an 1-2 page single spaced document. Please provide specific examples.

  • Tell us about an unexpected moment you've experienced in the classroom that helped you improve your ability to teach in more inclusive ways.
  • Which opportunities within your prior work experiences, community engagement, or involvement in professional organizations have enhanced your preparedness to work and collaborate within diverse settings?
  • How have you been involved in increasing accessibility (financial or ability) to your academic and/or creative field?

Please note, in the job application where there is the "CV/Cover Letter/Additional Documents" drop box, you must include all of the required materials listed above. You can upload each document separately or as a combined PDF. Your application will not be complete without these documents. If you are having issues uploading, please email facultycareers@emerson.edu.
