Overview
The School of Nursing, in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University (NIU), invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate professor level in its nursing program to begin August 2023. The School of Nursing is seeking applicants who have a demonstrated history of integrating innovation in nursing curriculum and assessment methods with experience in areas such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, or simulation.
The nursing program offers a B.S. with a major in Nursing through pre-licensure (face to face delivery) and RN-BS degree completion (online) programs, an M.S. in Nursing (online) with specializations in Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The bachelor’s, master’s, and DNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
The School of Nursing at NIU is led by dedicated faculty who are committed to bringing the most current evidence-based methods of instruction to our diverse student body. Our vision is to become a regional center for excellence in innovative nursing education and scholarship.
The successful hire must have availability to teach courses in person on campus at NIU in DeKalb, IL.
Position Summary
This is a full-time (9 months) tenure-track faculty position with teaching responsibilities in both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. This position also includes scholarship and service responsibilities commensurate with earning tenure according to School of Nursing, College of Health and Human Sciences, and University policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruct at the undergraduate, graduate, or a combination of both levels;
- Research, teaching, and service to the school, College, and University are essential duties and responsibilities;
- Provide service to the profession.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Nursing or related field;
- A master’s degree in Nursing;
- 3 or more years of clinical or teaching experience in population/community health, pediatrics, medical-surgical, women’s health, or mental health;
- Experience conducting research;
- Experience integrating innovation and technology into Nursing Education or clinical practice;
- IL RN license or eligibility.
Additional Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated interest in furthering innovation in Nursing education as transdisciplinary collaborative team member.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of nursing experience in a clinical healthcare setting;
- Experience securing external funding for research;
- Teaching in person, online, and hybrid models utilizing classroom technologies;
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
