FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 18 hours per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.
The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing and Lehman College invite applications for a faculty director of the CUNY Institute for Health Equity which is housed in the School. The Institute serves as a CUNY-wide locus of scholarly and applied work that contributes to the preparation of a cadre of faculty, students and community leaders that understand the social determinants of health and disease and encourage their collaboration to achieve health equity. The Institute addresses gaps in the health status of New York’s underserved populations. Building on the working relationship that CUNY campuses have with surrounding communities as well as the academic resources of each college, the Institute’s work is to identify and address the social determinants of health that contribute to the high rates of morbidity and mortality among these populations. One of the goals of the CIHE is to facilitate and strengthen multidisciplinary cooperation and health equity research within the CUNY community and beyond.
