The Assistant Dean for Student Services is delegated authority and responsibility by the Dean for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating activities related to the College of Nursing Student Services; providing direction and support and has planning and decision-making responsibility, accountability, and authority for these activities; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the undergraduate and graduate nursing curriculum and processes.
Knowledge of student affairs and student services, including admissions, financial aid, support programs; and student governance systems.
Knowledge of counseling and advisement.
Knowledge of current and modern student record-keeping processes, procedures, and law.
Ability to budget, plan, and manage financial resources.
Ability to develop, plan, and administer complex and varied projects.
Ability to develop, implement, administer, and evaluate events and programs, including online and web-based.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly to unexpected opportunities.
Ability to communicate effectively with university personnel and community.
Ability to work with diverse populations and sensitive to the cultural needs of students.
Ability to work with students who are experiencing psychological or behavioral difficulties.
Ability to work with and motivate students.
Ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships and to interact effectively with the nursing community.
Ability to lead a department and to motivate and mentor staff.
Ability to function independently.
Ability to work with computers and use related technologies and software as needed, including spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and graphics.
Doctoral degree in student development/higher education or related field and 4 years of experience working with students and faculty OR a master’s degree and 7 years of experience working with students and faculty required; demonstrated growth in responsibilities, including those in a supervisory capacity; demonstrated experience supervising staff; experience with budgets and strategic planning; strong leadership and interpersonal skills required.
Two or more years’ experience supervising full-time academic affairs professionals preferred; working knowledge of student information systems preferred.
