Job Description Summary

Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) on a 9-month tenure- track appointment with potential to teach in the summer for extra compensation. While all areas of expertise will be considered, the following areas of scholarship are desired: speech development, speech science, craniofacial anomalies, special populations, pediatric motor speech disorders, dysphagia. Responsibilities could include teaching undergraduate and Master’s level students, conducting research in area of expertise, pursuing extramural funding, directing undergraduate and graduate student research and participating in departmental and university service.

Minimum Qualifications

At time of appointment, doctoral degree in Communication Disorders or closely allied area (1 year ABD considered as Instructor). Ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses; potential for establishing a program of research, publication and extramural grant generation.

The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment. Excellent communication skills teaching SLP Courses required.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of promise in teaching, evidence of research interests and abilities, and an interest in pursuing external funding. Having CCC-SLP and potential for Alabama license. Prior record of peer-reviewed journal publication and grant experience are also desired.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and has approximately 300 undergraduate majors, 50 graduate majors in speech-language pathology, and 35 doctor of audiology students. Presently, the department has 17 full time faculty positions (10 PhD, 4 AuD, and 4 Master’s level). The program offers a Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology. The department also offers a professional Doctor of Audiology degree and the Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language and Hearing Science. The Department was the second program is 3rd in the nation to be CAA accredited and is accredited in both speech-language pathology and audiology.
